The Nigeria Association of women Journalists (NAWOJ)Imo state chapter has started a series of events to mark her 30thyear of existence in Nigeria. The events began on Monday with a roadshow that took off from the Imo International Convention Center(IICC) through Okigwe road to Rockview roundabout and then to Wetheral, Tetlow, and Douglas. The road show was intended to create awareness about the association while officially inviting the general public to come celebrate with them at the main event on Friday, November 1, 2019
In the mood of the celebration, the association had on Wednesday visited Development Secondary school Douglas Owerri to sensitize the students about Journalism and encourage them to work hard and be the best they can be. This was even as the Chairman NAWOJ Anniversary Planning Committee Amb. Mrs Shirley Munonye in her speech to the students introduced the association to them while engaging them in an interactive session on the concept of Journalism as a branch of mass communication. “ You have to establish a brand and work with it, giving it the best you can, you also have to be the best of yourself not striving to be who you are not. To achieve all these, you need to have an “I can do it attitude!” she said. The interaction inspired a lot of students who indicated interest in becoming journalists and also asked questions as regards planning a future in journalism.
The group also proceeded to the Nigeria Red Cross Motherless babies home along Sam Mbakwe road, where they extended a hand of love and friendship to the kids who were so excited to have their presence and gifted them prayers and goodwill in return.
As contained in their invitation letter the entire public has been invited to attend the intellectual harvest slated for Friday November 1 at 10:00am at the Imo International conference Center, Owerri, with the theme “Women: The great builders of Society- Role in Rebuild Imo Vision”. Afterwards a gala nite will follow at 5- 7pm. According to the Chairman of Imo NAWOJ, Barr Vivian Ottih, in appreciation to God for having sustained the association thus far, a thanksgiving service is scheduled to hold on Sunday, November 3 at Christ Embassy Church, Opposite NNPC Mega Station, Onitsha Road.
